Answer:
Many household items could be cleaned outside. During the long winter, many items could not be thoroughly cleaned. So when the warm weather of spring arrived, rugs, blankets, furniture and other items in the house were brought outside for a good cleaning. This is why it was called “spring cleaning”. What are some instances where a tin lantern would be better to use?

Answer:
Lanterns would be used when someone was going outside in the dark. The lantern would protect the candle from being put out by the wind or rain.

The carders can also remove some of the little pieces of twigs and mud that may be in the wool, even after it has been washed. What do we use wool for? Why was this an important task during the 1800s?

Answer:
What do we use wool for? Clothing, blankets and other warm, winter items are made out of wool. This was such an important task because families had to make their own clothing. A woman needed a lot of straight wool to be able to spin the wool into yarn. Then she could weave a blanket or knit a sweater, scarf or hat.
