Schram Print Shop
The Schram Printing Company was located at 407 Madison Avenue, Covington, in Kenton County, Kentucky. It is one of two buildings that are not from the 19th century (the other is Kemper Stone Kitchen). The structure was built here to house our collection of printing presses and letter trays donated by the Schram Printing Company in 2004. The company printed church bulletins, calling cards, letterheads, and wedding invitations. Framed prints on the walls were made in the original Schram Print Shop. The shop was operated by Gottlieb Fredrick Adolf Schramm and taken over by his son, John, who operated the shop until his retirement in 1976. An artist, John Ruthven, also donated an additional 3 printing presses, and the paper cutter and several presses are from Chandler & Price Co. of Cleveland, Ohio. Schram Print Shop represents not only the story of 19th century printing but also of immigrants who found success in the tri-state.
